As Faraland grows, so does our responsibility to operate within the legal frameworks of every region our players connect from. This update introduces a geo-based compliance layer across the marketplace — a quiet but important change that affects how (and where) some features are available.
What Changed
The app now performs a lightweight, one-time geolocation check when you load a page with marketplace actions. If your location falls under a restricted jurisdiction, certain buttons that used to open a transaction modal will instead show a simple notice:
Feature Unavailable — Due to new regulatory requirements, this feature is currently unavailable in your country. We apologize for the inconvenience.
No transaction is attempted, no wallet prompt appears — the restriction is applied before you ever get that far.
What’s Actually Restricted
It’s worth being precise here, because the restriction is narrower than “the whole game.” The affected actions are strictly the peer-to-peer trading flows: Buy, Offer, Take Offer, and List, across every asset type Faraland supports — Knights, Equipment, Materials, and Land.
Everything else keeps working exactly as before. If you’re in an affected region, you can still play the game; you just can’t currently transact on the open marketplace.
A Patchwork of Regulations
Crypto regulation is not a single global standard — it’s a patchwork, and it shifts constantly. Around the world, a number of jurisdictions currently impose meaningful restrictions on crypto asset trading, ranging from outright bans to heavy licensing and reporting requirements: China has prohibited crypto trading and mining outright since 2021; Algeria, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Iraq treat crypto transactions as illegal under existing financial law; Egypt and Morocco restrict trading through central bank directives; Qatar limits access for residents; and Vietnam sits in its own category — crypto isn’t recognized as legal tender or a legal means of payment, and lawmakers have been actively tightening oversight of exchanges and trading activity as new legislation takes shape.
This is the backdrop the new geo-compliance layer is built for. It’s the first application of a mechanism built to keep pace with a genuinely global, and genuinely uneven, legal landscape.
Why This Matters
Web3 games increasingly operate across borders where local law doesn’t move at the same pace as the technology. Building this kind of check rather than bolting it on later under pressure, lets us respond to new regulatory guidance quickly and predictably — market by market, country by country — without disrupting the core gameplay experience for anyone.
